In a new series of tweets, Kuo explains that Apple’s potentially canceled or pushed back the next-gen iPhone SE in order to save on product development costs in a shrinking smartphone market and because of poor demand for cheaper iPhones over the past couple of years. As we’ve reported already, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max from Apple’s current iPhone portfolio are selling well right now, to the point of frequent long delays in shipping dates for these two models....

Google Meet will soon let you unmute yourself by holding down on the space bar and releasing it to mute again. In an update on the Google blog (opens in new tab), the company mentions that people will be able to quickly participate in meetings this way and will even help in situations where users forget to mute themselves again after speaking. The feature is similar to how a walkie-talkie works and will save users an additional click to mute and unmute themselves manually on the app....

The 2017 Super Bowl Champion coach Doug Pederson will take the reigns for the Jags, while the Raiders will be led by long-time Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in this NFL live stream. Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has been hard at work on the future of VR and, at a recent roundtable discussion with major tech publications like Tom’s Guide, has unveiled its plan for the future of virtual reality. The roundtable was called “Inside the Lab: Passing the Visual Turing Test” and in it Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Reality Labs’ Chief Scientist Michael Abrash talked about what it would take to create more realistic virtual reality experiences through a series of prototypes....

Deadline (opens in new tab) reports that teen vampire drama First Kill has been axed after just a single season. The show is now the latest addition to the increasingly lengthy list of Netflix shows canceled in 2022, and its axing comes less than two months after the show debuted on June 10. First Kill even managed to break into the Netflix top 10 most-watched list, but it would appear even that wasn’t enough to convince the streamer to greenlight a second season....

Starting in November, Basic tier subscribers will see an upgrade in their resolution from 480p SD streaming quality to 720p HD resolution. That’s a sizable increase in quality and it should help bring the Basic tier a little closer in performance to the Standard tier that streams in 1080p. Considering it’s been over a decade since 480p was the de facto resolution, the time is long overdue to make 720p its new base resolution moving forward....

Key to that happening are a new breakthrough from the Universal Display Company (UDC), the main supplier of OLED panels to LG Display, BOE and Samsung Display, who say that it’ll soon be transitioning from a fluorescent blue OLED backlight to a phosphorescent one and the introduction of something called micro lenses. Peacock had previously confirmed it was working on an adaptation of The Green Bone Saga by author Fonda Lee, but the streamer has now opted to pass on the chance to bring this unique fantasy world to life. The saga is comprised of three novels, Jade City, Jade War and Jade Legacy, with the latter closing out the saga last year. Described by Lee as “The Godfather with magic and kung fu” the trilogy focuses on two warring syndicates vying for control of a magical substance, jade, which is able to grant superhuman abilities....
